SWAT

The Clinton County SWAT Team is a regional team that is made up of members from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Frankfort Police Department, Rossville Police Department and the Frankfort Fire Department. The Clinton County SWAT Team is made up of highly trained deputies/officers who go through a rigorous selection process. To be considered for the SWAT Team an officer must be a full time paid officer/fire fighter/medic. The candidate must have a minimum of 2 years full time experience before they can apply. All candidates then go through a selection process that includes physical testing, interview process, firearms proficiency, and testing concerning the comprehension and application of SWAT tactics. Candidates who are selected will attend a National Tactical Officer Association recognized SWAT Basic School. New SWAT Operators will also attend specialty schools such as sniper/scout, breaching, tactical medic and hostage rescue. SWAT Operators train monthly in a variety of areas from firearms, physical tactics, hostage rescue, advanced first aid, barricaded subjects, and specialized equipment.

The Clinton County SWAT Team is made up of multiple components. In addition to the tactical team, there is the Tactical Support Team (TST) and the Crisis Negotiation Team. The TST is made up of Corrections Officers/Special Deputies who assist the tactical team with gear load outs, training, command post security and specialty vehicle operation and maintenance. The Clinton County SWAT Team possesses two specialty vehicles utilized during team deployments. The first is a large panel truck that has the capability to transport the tactical team and all of its specialized equipment. The second vehicle is an armored rescue vehicle that was obtained through the LESO/DRMO program. This vehicle has been modified to suit civilian law enforcement special operations and is only deployed during extreme high risk situations (hostage rescue, armed barricaded subject, officer down, active shooter and certain weather emergencies).

The Crisis Negotiation Team is made up of members of the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and the Frankfort Police Department. Crisis Negotiators are highly trained in the area of negotiated conflict resolution. Crisis Negotiators utilize specialized communication equipment to assist with the completion of their mission. Crisis Negotiators receive yearly training in conflict resolution.
