Handgun Permits

Starting February 2, 2009, applications can be completed online.

The application can be found at:
http://aries.in.gov/Firearms/Permit.aspx

1. Applicant completes application on the internet and submits.
2. Applicant comes to local Law Enforcement Agency for fingerprints.
3. Law Enforcement Agency will approve or disapprove locally and will submit electronic version to ISP Records.
4. Applicant pays for application, submits paper version, and fingerprints to ISP for final approval or disapproval.

Persons 18 years and older who live within the city limits of Frankfort should contact the Frankfort Police Department.

Persons 18 years and older who live within the town limits of Colfax, Kirklin, Michigantown, Mulberry and Rossville should contact their town marshall.

All other residents, 18 years and older, residing in Clinton County, including those who reside within the town limits of Forest may apply at the Clinton County Sheriff's Office. Applications will be processed Monday — Friday, 8:00 AM — 4:30 PM, except government holidays.

Residents of Indiana may now apply for a Lifetime Handgun License. The same guidelines apply in regard to the location where the application can be completed.

The period during which an application for the renewal of an existing handgun license may be filed begins 365 days before the date the license expires.

(1) Processing fee due when completing application. Payment may be made using cash, personal check or money order.
(2) Money order or cashier's check, payable to the State of Indiana, is remitted and mailed by the applicant to the Indiana State Police, Firearms Section, Indianapolis, IN

RETIRED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER**, RETIRED CORRECTIONS OFFICER** and FIREARMS DEALER

Processing fee will be charged, as listed above, depending on license status and type of license for which application is completed.

The applicant, in this category, does not remit a fee when mailing application to the Indiana State Police, Firearms Section, Indianapolis, IN.

** Must provide documentation of having served 20 years or more.

Requesting DUPLICATE HANDGUN LICENSE AND/OR NOTIFICATION OF NAME OR ADDRESS CHANGES [State Form 53228 (R/7-07)]

As stated on the page on which the license is printed, a duplicate license will be issued to replace a lost or damaged license. However, if the only change is one's address or one's name, unless requested, a new license will not be issued.

State Form 53228 (R/7-07) can be printed off the Internet http://www.in.gov/ and follow the instructions:

1. Any payment due may be made via a certified check or money order, made payable to the State of Indiana.

3. If no fee is due, the completed request form may be faxed to: 317-233-9730

No fee for: notification of new address (only) and/or name change (only)

$20 fee for: (1)request for duplicate license or (2)notification of name or address change and request for a duplicate license

Fee exempt: (1)request for duplicate license by qualified* retired Law Enforcement Officer, Deputy, or Corrections Officer or (2)request for a duplicate license by an Indiana Licensed Handgun Dealer (fee exempt under IC 35-47-2-4)

*Must provide documentation of having served 20 years or more

States Accepting Indiana Handgun Licenses:
AK, AL, AR, AZ, CO, FL, GA, ID, KY, LA, MI, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NH, OK, PA, SD, TN, UT, VT, WY

Indiana honors any permit issued by any other state or political subdivision.
